Olivier Mosset x NM3
Zurich, Switzerland
Bench is a new work by Olivier Mosset, developed and produced in collaboration with NM3.
The project takes the form of a minimal, functional object: a bench reduced to its essential structure and constructed in zinc-plated steel.
Its industrial character reflects Mosset’s long-standing interest in working beyond the traditional boundaries of painting, through processes and forms that place the work in direct relation with its material and spatial context.
The starting point for the benches was unexpectedly simple.
Looking through a museum catalogue, Mosset found himself drawn to the benches pictured alongside the artworks, observing that they “looked better than the paintings.”
This observation became the starting point for a series of benches that bring together function, sculpture and architecture.
For NM3, the project represents a continuation of an approach centred on material, construction and precise industrial production.
The collaboration translates Mosset’s idea into a physical object while preserving its directness and essential character.
Bench, 2026 is produced as a limited edition of ten pieces.
Each work is individually numbered and signed and identified by a metal tag.
The work is currently on view at Galerie Oskar Weiss and Tobias Mueller Modern Art in Zurich, as part of Drive Through, a two-site exhibition dedicated to Olivier Mosset, running from 5 September to 31 October 2026.
